Weiβ Schwarz Cards of the Day: 19th of April

For Friday’s preview we got 5 cards that all work together, so I decided to separate them out rather than getting lost at the end of the other catch up previews. They consist of a Level 3 Event card, and the 4 other cards that can work alongside that Event.

Book of Darkness Awakening

Summoning loads of cards at once reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh!

Blue / Level 3 / Cost 2 / No Trigger

If you do not have a character whose name includes [ はやて Hayate] on your Stage you cannot play this card from your Hand. Choose up to 1 [Commander’s declaration, Signum], up to 1 [Chance meeting on the rooftop, Vita], up to 1 [Support role, Shamal] and up to 1 [Sudden strike, Zafira] from your Waiting Room and place them in separate Borders on your Stage.

[Book of Darkness Awakening] is an unusual card for Weiβ Schwarz since it allows you to play up to 4 cards for a single card, resulting in an extra 3 resources. However it seems questionable about whether you’d really want to play all 4 of these cards to the Stage, especially at Level 3. Unless the currently unrevealed Level 3 Hayate needs all of these cards to gain her full strength, I don’t see this being much good beyond a last ditch attempt to rush your opponent.

It’s also quite unlikely that you’ll need to place all 4 cards onto the Stage at once, since you’ll usually still have some Back Stage cards around. In those cases this card will be less useful. Another issue is that the deck would have to be Tri-Colour to work properly, and this can sometimes be hard to pull off. Fortunately though the 4 cards in question can function on their own even without this Event.

Commander’s declaration, Signum

Soul rush!

Yellow / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 6500 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«魔法 Magic»  / «武器 Weapon»

[AUTO] When this card is placed on the Stage from your Hand, or via [Book of Darkness Awakening], if you have 2 or more other «魔法 Magic» characters, during that turn, this card gain Soul +1.

The first of the 4 cards is Signum, who can reach 2 Soul on the turn you play her. This could be useful for causing more damage, but might be wasted in the middle of the game. The only real advantage this card might have during the late game is that she’ll allow you to play a 2 Soul card for only 1 Stock. If played via the above Event you should practically always be able to gain the Soul boost though.

Beyond this she’ll just be a 6500 after this, meaning she can easily get beaten up by other 1\1s.

Chance meeting on the rooftop, Vita

Nobody loves the Vita.

Red / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 5000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«魔法 Magic»  / «人形 Doll»

[AUTO] When this card is placed on the Stage from your Hand or via the effect of [Book of Darkness Awakening], during that turn, this card gains Power +X. X is equal to the number of your «魔法 Magic» characters x 500.

Vita is a straightforward attacker who could reach 7500 when you’ve got a full Stage. This is enough to handle most 1/1s, allowing you to save your Stock for other cards. However this would require you to fill your Stage in the process.

If played via [Book of Darkness Awakening] she’ll be practically guaranteed to be 7500, however this would be nowhere near enough to handle your opponent’s cards during Level 3, so will largely be wasted.

Support role, Shamal

No Counters for you!

Blue / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«魔法 Magic»

[CONT] During your opponent’s turn, all your other «魔法 Magic» or «本 Book» characters gain Power +500.

[ACT] [(1)] Choose 1 of your «魔法 Magic» or «本 Book» characters, during that turn they gain the following ability. [[CONT] When this card battles, your opponent cannot use Event or [Backup] from their Hand.]

Up next we have a pair of support cards, starting with Shamal. On top of global support to «魔法 Magic» or «本 Book» characters, she can also prevent your opponent from playing Events or Backups, letting you attack freely. Possibly because of this bonus effect, her global support will only work during the opponent’s turn, making that more of a defensive effect. They might have considered a Power boost and Counter prevention a bit too much in one card.

Since you can stop the opponent from using Events or Backups, you’ll be able to pick off characters that your opponent might have been hoping to defend from your attacks. However just be careful to attack them first, so your opponent can’t do any fancy tricks to try and give Power boosts to the character you were hoping to defeat. This effect will probably be useful at Level 3 if brought out by [Book of Darkness Awakening], or just kept on the Stage all game.

Sudden strike, Zafira

You'd think with a picture like this, that the card would be more than just a support.

Blue / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 3000 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«使い魔 Familiar» / «動物 Animal»

[CONT] All of your other «魔法 Magic» or «本 Book» characters gain Power +500.

[ACT] [(1) Rest this card] Choose 2 of your characters, until the end of your opponent’s turn, they gain the following ability [[AUTO] Encore [Place 1 card from your Hand in the Waiting Room]].

Our final support card is Zafira, who is another global support card, except this time he gives the bonus at all times, rather than just in the opponent’s turn. This allows you to buff your characters whilst on the offense and defense. He however understandably has an extra Cost.

His second effect bestows Encore on two of your characters, making them harder for the opponent to get rid of. However, just because the effect lasts until the end of your opponent’s next turn, doesn’t mean you can get away with using the effect twice. If you lose  a battle on your turn and have to Encore the character, they will no longer have this effect when they come back, because they’ll have gone to the Waiting Room in the meantime.

Like Shamal, this could actually be useful at the end of the game if brought back by [Book of Darkness Awakening] or kept on Stage.
