Weiβ Schwarz Cards of the Day: 16th-18th of April

For the additional previews this week, Nanoha has been joined by Fate and Hayate. Since Friday’s preview featured 5 cards I’m going to give that it’s own separate entry.

Reunion after a long time, Fate

Those eyes creepy to anyone else?

Yellow / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 2500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«魔法 Magic» / «クローン Clone»

[ACT] Brainstorm [(1)] Turn over the top 4 cards of your Deck and place them in the Waiting Room. For every 1 Climax Card amongst them, during that turn, this card gains Power +1000, Soul +1.

Our first Fate card comes with a Brainstorm ability that can empower herself when it succeeds. However I imagine the Power boost will only really be useful early on in the game, when it could actually help you win a battle. Later on in the game, the Soul might be more useful, since it could help you cause lots of damage, or help with a Side Attack.

Aside from this, it can always just be used to thin your deck down.

Reunion after a long time, Nanoha

It's not quite as bad as the Uta no Prince-sama ones.

Red / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 2000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«魔法 Magic»  / «武器 Weapon»

[AUTO] When this card attacks, you may choose 1 of your other characters, during that turn, it gains Power +1500.

Paired with the above Fate we have a Level 0 Nanoha who can aid your other attackers. The 1500 boost should allow another character to overcome most other evenly Costed cards, and might even let them challenge cards of 1 Cost higher. The boost seems to be so large because Nanoha can’t use it on herself, meaning she’ll only be sitting at 2000. This makes her a big liability later in the game, and even early on she won’t be able to handle much other than Reversers.

Since her effect is not attribute limited, it means she could be useful in Standard for both «魔法 Magic» or «武器 Weapon» decks.

Determined look, Nanoha

I don't think slanted eyebrows is enough to count as determined.

Red / Level 3 / Cost 2 / 9000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«魔法 Magic»  / «武器 Weapon»

[CONT] Recollection If you have 2 or more «魔法 Magic» characters in your Memory, this card gains Power +2000.

[AUTO] When this card is placed on the Stage from your Hand, if you have 3 or more other «魔法 Magic» characters, you may put the top 1 card of your Deck to Stock.

[AUTO] When this card is Front Attacked, look at the top 1 card of your Deck and place it in the Waiting Room or on top of your Deck.

Our first new Level 3 card is a Nanoha card who can be quite useful for keeping your Stock up and trying to stay in the game. Normally she’d only be a 9,000, but since the new cards seem to be focusing around getting cards to Memory, she should reach 11,000 during the vast majority of your games. This should be enough to deal with many Level 3s, since they often cannot improve their Power on their own.

The 2nd effect will allow you to regain a Stock after playing her, essentially turning Nanoha into a 1 Stock card. Of course if you don’t have the 2 Stock in the first place you cannot play her though. The Stock boost should allow you to play other cards during the late game that you might otherwise not have been able to. Otherwise it does help you with deck thinning.

Since you need 3 «魔法 Magic» characters to use this effect, you’ll need at least one other Centre Stage character to start things off, since your Back Stage will usually be full. This might sometimes mean you won’t be able to benefit from this effect.

Nanoha’s final effect allows you to check the top of the Deck when she gets Front Attacked, which can be helpful for increasing the chances of the damage being cancelled. If you see a Climax just put it back, otherwise get rid of the card, so you’ll be more likely to hit a Climax from the damage.

For a friend, Fate

Looks like memory could be big in this set.

Yellow / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 2000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«魔法 Magic» / «クローン Clone»

[AUTO] When this card is placed on the Stage from your Hand, during that turn, this card gains Level +1, Power +1000.

[AUTO] [(1)] When this card is Reversed in battle, you may pay the Cost. If you do so, send this card to Memory.

Our second Fate card can be used as an anti-Reverser card, as well as helping you thin your Deck for later, and set up Recollection effects.

Her first effect will make her a 3000, which put her to vanilla Power, but what’s far more important is the Level increase. This will allow you to get around Reversers without losing any of your own cards. Even though it’s likely she’ll be defeated on the following turn, due to only having 2000 Power normally, at least it means you can protect your more powerful Level 0s from Reversers.

Once she’s fulfilled this purpose, you can send her to Memory when she gets defeated, instead of the Waiting Room. This will mean your Deck will be 1 card smaller after Refresh, and that your Recollection effects can start to become active almost immediately.

Unizon In! Hayate

Hooray for awkward english!

Blue / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 2500 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«魔法 Magic» / «本 Book»

[CONT] All of your other «魔法 Magic» or «本 Book» characters gain Power +1000.

[ACT] [(2) Place 1 [Slumbering Reinforce] from your Stage, and this card in Memory] Choose 1 [Two Hearts Beating as One Hayate & Reinforce] from your Waiting Room and place it in the Border this card was in.

Our first Hayate card works in a support role, but can also be used to bring out another, not yet revealed card. The first effect means that Hayate could find use in both «魔法 Magic» or «本 Book» Decks, possibly making it useful in Standard as well. I’m not entirely sure whether this sort of effect exists already within Nanoha, so I can’t really tell whether there are better support cards already out there. As always, Level support gives more Power in the centre, but global supports like this can support the edges better when you double up on it.

The second effect however is likely to be a reason for wanting to use Hayate over other support cards, because it will presumably allow you to play a Level 3 early. Given the high cost of this effect, it’s also quite likely that we can expect [Two Hearts Beating as One Hayate & Reinforce] to be a powerful card. We will have to wait and see on that though. Even if the card isn’t astoundingly powerful, the ability to play it early, and load up your Memory faster might make this card useful.

New strength, Fate

Been a while since I've seen same Level Change.

Yellow / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 4000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«魔法 Magic» / «クローン Clone»

[AUTO] When this card is placed on the Stage from your Hand, choose 1 of your other «魔法 Magic» characters, during that turn, it gains Power +1000.

[AUTO] Change [(1) Place this card in Memory] At the start of your Climax Phase, you may pay the Cost. If you do so, choose 1 [Sonic drive, Fate] from your Waiting Room and place it in the Border this card was in.

Our final Fate cards for the week come in the form of a pair of Level 1 cards that should work together quite well. When [New strength, Fate] comes into play she can give another «魔法 Magic» character a 1000 Power boost, which should prove useful during the Level 1 portion of the game.

After this, she can Change into [Sonic drive, Fate], immediately unlocking her full strength. Since the Change only requires  a single Stock it’s no worse for you than playing the 2nd Fate from your Hand. In addition, placing this card in Memory will thin your Deck for later and support all your Recollection effects.

Sonic drive, Fate

You don't want to make Fate angry!

Yellow / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 6000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«魔法 Magic» / «クローン Clone»

[CONT] Recollection During your turn, if you have cards in Memory, this card gains Power +1500.

[AUTO] Encore [Place 1 character card from your Hand in the Waiting Room]

[Sonic drive, Fate] can become a pretty hefty attacker on your turn, whilst also being able to weather your opponent’s attacks via Encore. Her Recollection effect will push her up to 7500 during your turn allowing her to defeat many other 1/1s and even suicide with the deadlier 1/1s that start at 7500. Since this doesn’t have specific requirements, you can use any of your other cards that send themselves to Memory to set this up, and don’t have to rely on the Change. If you do want to bring her out via Change, it does allow you the option to dump her from your opening Hand and digging for other cards instead.
