For Valentine’s day Bushiroad didn’t do anything special for the card previews, instead giving us a double bill of Green Climax combos. Up first we have the first appearance of Suguha, followed by yet another appearance of Leafa.
Wavering Feelings, Suguha
Green / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 2000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«ネット Net» / «スポーツ Sports»
[CONT] All of your other Characters gain Power +500.
[AUTO][(1)] When [Feeling That Has Been Kept Hidden] is placed in your Climax Zone, you may pay the Cost. If you do so, all of your Characters, during that turn, gain Power +1500.
Suguha is a a dedicated support card who has two abilities that both aid in making your other cards more powerful. Her first effect provides a global +500 boost, meaning you don’t need to worry about attributes or positioning. This makes her an easy fit for any deck that runs Green. However later in the game this boost will become outmatched by more powerful cards. What’s also important to consider is the fact that she’s Level 1, meaning you might need to forgo support cards during Level 0 in order to use her.
However her Climax combo can be used to make up for this power deficit, making her one of the strongest supports around. During the combo she’ll grant a global 2000 boost, meaning she’ll even outmatch Level support cards. With two copies of her it will be very difficult for your opponent to hold off your attacks. However since this is a Climax combo, you will need to consider the fact that you won’t always be able to use this effect, and shouldn’t rely on this to carry you through the game.
Between Suguha and the Level 3 Leafa it looks like the Green part of Sword Art Online will have access to some fairly hefty characters.
Magic Swordsman, Leafa
Green / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 8000 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«アバター Avatar» / «武器 Weapon»
[AUTO] [(1)] When this card attacks, if [Spell Chanting] is in your Climax Zone, you may pay the Cost. If you do so, during that turn, this card gains Power +1000 and the following ability. [[AUTO] When this card’s Level 2 or higher battle opponent is Reversed, you may put that Character to the Clock.]
Leafa simply comes with a Climax combo, but it can be quite a deadly one. As well as a 1000 Power boost, on top of whatever the Climax does, she can also turn her defeated opponent into damage. Not only is this unblockable, but it will also prevent your opponent from Encoring the character. This could get rid of pesky characters, but at the right time it could even win you the game.
The issue of course is that Leafa will have to win a battle in order to use this part of her effect, which won’t always be possible. She can probably handle Level 2 characters without too much trouble, but Level 3s could be a real struggle, even if the Climax gives a +2000 boost. Ultimately it’ll be much more beneficial for you to defeat Level 3s though, since a single damage could be game ending at Level 3, rather than merely being useful at Level 2. Thankfully though it looks like a Green deck, and especially a Leafa based one, will have access to lots of Power boosting cards.
As always you do have to be careful about what Counter cards your opponent still has left, because if you’re not careful it could stop Leafa in her tracks.
