Weiβ Schwarz Cards of the Day: 2nd – 12th of November

13 Nov

The Robotics;Notes previews have continued over this period, showcasing a variety of different characters. I’ve been a bit lax with the previews recently, so there’s a lot of catching up to do.

Senomiya Akiho

Yellow / Level 3 / Cost 2 / 9500 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«科学 Science» / «メカ Mecha»

[CONT] If you Deck has 5 or less cards, this card in your Hand gains Level -1.
[CONT] EXPERIENCE During your turn, if the sum of the Levels of the cards in your Level is 4 or more, this card gains Power +2000.
[AUTO] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, you may put the top 1 card of your Clock to the Waiting Room.

Up first we have the Akiho Level 3 from two weeks ago. She’s part of an expanding group of cards which can be played during Level 2, in addition to having an Experience effect, and currently the only heal card in the set.

The requirement to play her early could be a little tricky, since it won’t always be entirely under your control whether you have 5 or less cards in your Deck. You can’t guarantee your opponent won’t hit you for loads of damage in a single turn, forcing you from 5+ to a Refresh in one go. If they know your deck can do this, they might even wait until this point before causing lots of damage, just to hold off Akiho for a turn. Of course the downside of using this strategy is that it might put you to Level 3 anyway, meaning she won’t be delayed at all.

Her Experience effect will mean that she can reach 11500 during your turn, allowing her to easily overpower many other Level 3s out there. However since it only works during your turn, it means she’ll be sadly lacking on the defense at only 9500 power. This won’t be as much of an issue if you play her early during Level 2, but once your opponent hits Level 3 as well she probably won’t last too long.

Finally a heal effect is nothing unusual for a Level 3, but it currently looks like Akiho is the only one Robotics;Notes has access to, meaning she could be very important for that deck.

High School Times, Misaki

Blue / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 1000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «メカ Mecha»

[AUTO] When this card attacks, choose 1 of your other «科学 Science» characters, and it gains Power +1000 for that turn.
[ACT] [(1) Put 2 of your «科学 Science» characters to Rest] Choose 1 Cost 2 or below character card from your Hand whose Level is equal to or below your Level and put it in any Border on the Stage you wish.

Misaki is an interesting support card, since she allow you to play cards for cheaper, but there are disadvantages to playing her. She allows you to play a Cost 2 or below character for 1 Stock, as long as you also Rest two «科学 Science» characters. As such you’ll want to save her effect for Cost 2 cards, since it will save you a Stock, allowing you to play other powerful cards as well. The issue with this is that it could conflict with other cards that need you to Rest cards, and also it relies on you playing Misaki to the Stage. This either means you’ll waste a support slot on her, that could instead be used for a power boost, or you’ll just end up replacing her anyway, costing you a card.

Her other effect allows Misaki to give another «科学 Science» characters a power boost when she attacks, which could be useful for getting over your opponent’s characters, the problem though is that Misaki herself is likely to be defeated on the next turn.

New Club Member Welcome Party, Kaito

Yellow / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 3000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «ゲーム Game»

[AUTO] When you Level Up, put this card to the Waiting Room.
[ACT] CONCENTRATION [(1)] Turn over 4 cards from the top of your Deck, and put them to the Waiting Room. For every 1 Climax card amongst those cards, this card gains Power +1000, Soul +1 for that turn.

Here we have a Kaito card that can either function as an attacker at Level 0, or a Concentration card at other points in the game. At the start of the game he’ll have the same function as a Level 0 vanilla, but once he’s no longer strong enough to beat anything, he can be used to thin your deck, or cause Soul damage.

The problem with him, is of course that there has to be a downside to combining his stats with his effect. In this case it’s the fact that he’ll go to the Waiting Room as soon as you Level up. This means you could end up losing a card at an inopportune time.

Kill Ballad Showdown! Kaito

Yellow / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 6500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «ゲーム Game»

[CONT] EXPERIENCE If the sum of the Levels of the cards in your Level is 2 or more, this card gains Power +500 and [[AUTO] ENCORE [Put 1 character card from Hand to the Waiting Room]].

Our second Kaito card is a strong Level 1 that can outmatch other 1/1 Encore cards, since they only reach 6500 normally. He’ll be as strong as a vanilla, but with the added bonus of Encore to keep him around. Since it looks like Robotics;Notes is going to be an Experienced based set, you should be building and playing your deck in such a way that it’ll be easy to meet his requirements.

Past Trauma, Junna

Green / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 6000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «スポーツ Sports»

[AUTO] [(2)] When this card attacks, if [Read Out Step] is in the Climax Border, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose 1 Cost 1 or below «科学 Science» Character card from your Waiting Room and put it in any Border you wish in Rest.
[AUTO] ENCORE [Put 1 Character card from Hand to the Waiting Room]

Up next we’ve got another 1/1 with Encore, but this time with lower power and a Climax combo. The lower power makes her easier to defeat, but with Encore she can stick around longer and hopefully use the Climax combo. On top of this is appears that the Climax in question is a Treasure Trigger, making it even easier to get the Climax to your hand and pull off the combo. Since she’s also a Bond target, as we’ll see next, it should be comparatively easy to use this combo compared to others.

When you pull off the combo it will allow you to bring a Cost 1 Character back from the Waiting Room. Probably the best use for this would be to bring back a 2/1 card, since it will either give you access to powerful support cards, or a big wall to defend from your opponent’s attacks.

Unfortunately though, this is quite a costly combo, just to allow you to play a 2/1 early. Not only is it a Climax combo, but it also costs 2 Stock, on top of the 1 Stock for playing Junna. This means it’ll cost you 3 Stock and a Climax, just to get a Level 2 out early. In addition, since the card comes out in Rest, you can’t use it immediately, unless of course it’s a support card where you won’t care about this.

Fujita Tetsuharu

Green / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «メカ Mecha»

[AUTO] BOND/[Past Trauma, Junna] [Put 1 card from the top of your Deck to Clock]
[ACT] [Put this card to Rest] Choose 1 of your «科学 Science» characters, and it gains Power +500 for that turn.

Tetsuharu is another Clock Bond card, in this case for the previous Junna card, making it easier to pull off the combo, and without costing you any Stock. Once you’ve used the Bond, he isn’t completely useless though, since he can still give a «科学 Science» character +500 by Resting him. This means he can still be used as a weaker support card if you’ve not managed to fill your Back Stage yet.

Mister Pleiades

Red / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 5000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «仮面 Mask»

[ACT] [(1)] This card gains Power +1000 and the following ability for that turn. [[AUTO] When this card’s battle opponent is put to Reverse, you may put that character to the top of the Deck.]

M45

Red / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «メカ Mecha»

[CONT] All of your other [Mister Pleiades] gain Power +1000.
[AUTO] BOND/[Mister Pleiades] [(1)]

I’ll cover Mister Pleiades and M45 together, since they form a Bond combo. M45 Bonds to Mister Pleiades, making him much easier to play. What’s more, afterwards Mister Pleiades will get a 1000 power boost from M45, making him a very powerful 1/0 at 6000. Of course you have to consider the fact that it cost you 1 Stock in the first place to Bond though, meaning it’s not really a free Level 1. Although if you don’t need the Bond, M45 can still give a power boost if instead you’ve just drawn both cards.

Mister Pleiades himself is a useful anti-Encore card, since he can send defeated characters to the top of the deck, and this will be especially useful with the Angel Beats! and Disgaea decks around at the moment. It’s also fairly likely he’ll be able to reach at least 7000 power, enough to handle most Level 1s. Sending a card to the top of the deck can also be a useful way to cause extra damage.

Robot Otaku, Akiho

Blue / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 3500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «メカ Mecha»

[AUTO] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, reveal the top 1 card of your Deck. If that card is not a «科学 Science» character, this card gains the following ability for that turn. [[CONT] This card cannot Attack.]

Our next Akiho card is likely to be the Level 0 powerhouse for the deck, assuming there aren’t more over 3000 cards to be revealed. Like many other 0/0 3500 Power cards you have to check the top of your deck for an attribute common to the deck, in this case «科学 Science». I would assume all these kinds of restrictions are done to stop them all being thrown in the same Standard deck.

Unlike other similar cards, this Akiho loses the ability to attack when her check fails. Personally I feel this demerit is worse than the ones that cause you to take 1 damage when you fail. This is because building Stock and defeating opponent’s cards can be especially important at Level 0, whilst taking a single damage is less of a concern at this point.

Geji-nee

Blue / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 1500 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«科学 Science» / «ネット Net» / Counter

[AUTO] When you use this card’s ASSISTANCE, choose 1 of your «科学 Science» characters, and it gains Power +1000 for that turn.
[ACT][Counter] ASSISTANCE 1500 Level 1 [(1) Put this card in Hand to the Waiting Room]

Geji-Nee is a useful counter, since it allows for a larger boost than normally provided by a 1/1, which only reaches +2000, compared to her +2500. In addition she can split them across two characters, potentially saving two cards for the price of one.

Frau Koujiro

Red / Level 3 / Cost 2 / 10000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«科学 Science» / «オタク Otaku»

[CONT] This card cannot be Reversed by [AUTO] effects of your Opponent’s Characters.
[AUTO] When this card attacks, if [To Make Gunvarrel Shine] is in the Climax Zone, choose up to 1 Character in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand, and this card gains Power +3000 for the turn.
[AUTO] [(1)] During your turn, when the Battle Opponent of this card becomes Reversed, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose a Level 2 or Lower Character in your Opponent’s Front Stage and put it on top of the Deck.

Last week ended with a trio of Frau cards, including a Level 3 Climax combo, and a Level 2 which can change into her early. I’ll start off by covering the Level 3, with the accompanying Climax to follow at the end of the Trio.

The Level 3 Frau card has a trio of effects, making her quite useful. Her first effect protects her from Reversing effects, which would be useful at all other Levels but 3, since these kinds of effects are fairly rare. This can only really protect her from support cards which give the Reversing ability, but few series have that effect, and even if they do they don’t necessarily play it. It could also protect against Adachi from Persona 4, who can defeat cards which come out before their intended Level, but it would be rare to encounter him. On the surface this effect looks good, but in reality it will rarely be used.

Her second effect is pretty standard for a Gate Climax combo, since it turns the Climax into a character from your Waiting Room, allowing you to retrieve characters whether you draw or Trigger the Climax in question. On top of this she also gets a 3000 power boost, helping her to defeat most foes in front of her, potentially making up 2 cards for the cost of the Climax.

Finally Frau’s last effect can be used to get rid of your opponent’s Level 2 Front Stage cards, and potentially cause more damage to the opponent. Aside from the fact it can help you win faster by guaranteeing a single damage, it has extra uses for messing up your opponent’s plans. Firstly it could be used to get rid of Encore cards safely, with no worry of them coming back. Secondly it could be used to clear a gap for a direct attack, which could either be done just to cause extra damage, or because you wouldn’t have been able to defeat that card anyway.

Frau, Sharing Secrets

Red / Level 2 / Cost 2 / 8000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«科学 Science» / «オタク Otaku»

[AUTO] When this card is placed from hand to the Stage, choose 1 of your other «科学 Science» Characters. That Character gains Power +1000 for the turn.
[AUTO] CHANGE [(1) Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room, Put this in the Waiting Room] At the start of your Climax Phase, you may pay cost. If so, choose a [Frau Koujiro] in your Waiting Room and put it in the Slot this was in.

The second Frau card makes it easier to play the Level 3 Frau card, but does come at quite a heavy cost. In the end it will cost you 3 Stock and a card in your Hand, in order to play Frau a Level early. However since she comes down during the Climax Phase, it means you could attack with her immediately, or even pull off her Climax combo right away, which can be to your advantage. Another slight advantage of this sort of Change ability, is that you could discard the Level 3 Frau in order to pay the cost, and then Change straight into it, meaning you don’t necessarily need her in the Waiting Room at the time.

On top of this she can also give another «科学 Science» character +1000 when she is placed on the Stage from your Hand. This means that even after she Changes, or alternatively on the turns you fail to Change, she will still have a useful impact on the rest of your Stage.

To Make Gunvarrel Shine

Red / Gate Trigger

[CONT] All your Characters gain Power +1000 Power and Soul +1.

Last in the Frau trio we have what is a standard Gate Trigger.

Benefactor Of Life, Akiho

Yellow / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 3000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «メカ Mecha»

[CONT] All of your other «科学 Science» characters gain Power +500.
[ACT] [Put 1 card from the top of your Deck to Clock, put 2 of your characters to Rest] Choose 1 [A Certain Summer Day, Kaito] from your Waiting Room and put it to any Border in the Stage you wish.

Players of Robotics;Notes will be spoilt for choice when it comes to Support cards, since their second global «科学 Science» support has just been revealed in the form of this Level 1 Akiho. This means it’s unlikely that we’ll see any global support at Level 0, instead having to make do with +500 in front cards.

Due to this you might have to be very careful with how you balance your deck. You don’t want to be replacing your support cards every Level from 0 to 2, but you equally don’t want to leave your cards unsupported at Level 0, just because you know a global support is coming up at Level 0. You also don’t want to bloat your deck with support cards, making it hard to actually hit the opponent.

Thankfully though, Akiho has a bonus effect meaning she can do more than just provide a power boost. By Resting two characters and taking 1 damage, you can revive the next card in the preview, and get around his negative ability. This could either be used simply to generate extra cards, or to essentially Encore the Kaito card every turn. This way you should never be without an attacking force at Level 0, and can easily conserve your Stock. Of course you have to be very careful not to cause too much damage to yourself and wind up losing later in the game.

A Certain Summer Day, Kaito

Yellow / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 6000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«科学 Science» / «ゲーム Game»

[AUTO] [Put 1 Character card from your Hand to the Waiting Room] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, you may pay the cost. If you do not do so, put this card to the Waiting Room.
[ACT] [(1)] This card gains Soul +1 for that turn.

For the final card in this preview we have a new Level 1 Kaito card, which is pretty powerful for a 1/0 at 6000 Power. Unfortunately though he has a major downside, which is that you need to discard a Character from your Hand in order to keep him on the Stage when you initially play him. This is a much larger drain on your resources compared to paying a single Stock. Fortunately though, the above Akiho card can get around this by playing him from the Waiting Room, whilst still not paying any Stock.

Kaito also has a second ability which will make him very useful during the end of the game. By paying 1 Stock he can boost his Soul by 1, and this can be repeated as many times as necessary. By timing this right at the end of the game you can spend your Stock to deal a game winning blow, much like the Level 3 from the Accel World TD.
