This week has been full of more Robotics;Notes previews, with an Airi double bill on Wednesday (although one of those was an alternate personality), and following up with a Frau double bill today.
Mode Switch, Airi
Blue / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 1500 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«科学 Science» / «ネット Net»
[AUTO] [(1)] When this card is put from the Stage to the Waiting Room, you may pay the cost. If you do so, draw 1 card.
[AUTO] CHANGE [(2) Put 1 card from Hand to the Waiting Room, put this card to the Waiting Room] At the beginning of your Climax Phase, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose 1 [Mode Switch, Geji-nee] from your Waiting Room and put it in the Border this card was in.
Up first we have an Airi card which could quite easily drain away your Stock. Statistically she’s very weak, at only 1500 power, but she’s not meant to last even a single turn, since she’ll get Changed into a much bigger card.
Her first effect gives you an extra card in exchange for a Stock, meaning you can refill your Hand after playing her. You have to remember though, that since it costs a Stock to play her as well, this will really be 2 Stock to draw a card. If you use this effect it makes it easier to achieve the Change effect, since you won’t lose any cards overall, you would however use up 4 Stock, rather than 3.
The second effect allows you to Change into the next card of the preview, which can place a powerful force on the Stage during Level 1. As noted above it is quite costly overall though, since it will either cost 3 Stock and a card, or 4 Stock overall.
Mode Switch, Geji-nee
Blue / Level 2 / Cost 2 / 8500 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«科学 Science» / «ネット Net»
[CONT] During your opponent’s turn, if you have 2 or more other characters in Rest in your Stage, this card gains Power +1500.
Geji is the change target for the Airi card, and is her alternate personality. She can be quite strong under the correct circumstances, especially at Level 1, but you need to be careful how you arrange your field.
The idea is that she’ll be an 8500 attacker, and a 10000 defender, which could make her difficult to shift until at least Level 2. However decks than can play Level 3s earlier should have no trouble dealing with her once they reach Level 2.
The reason you have to be careful with arranging your field, is so you can keep 2 Rested characters on the Stage for the whole of the opponent’s turn. Normally this would be the two other Front Stage characters, because they’ll have attacked in the previous turn. The issue with this though, is that as soon as one gets defeated Geji will lose 1500 power, making her weak for a 2/2. This could easily happen unless you fill the Front Stage with other large characters, and even then a Climax could easily push through one of them.
Instead what you want to do is try and Rest your Back Stage characters, since it will be much harder to get rid of them, allowing Geji to keep her full strength. Currently I don’t really know if Robotics;Notes has the right sort of cards to make this feasible below Level 2 very often. Although you could do it with the next card.
Red / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 6000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«科学 Science» / «オタク Otaku»
[AUTO] ENCORE [Put 1 Character card from Hand to the Waiting Room]
[ACT] [Put 1 of your «科学 Science» characters to Rest] This card gains Power +1000 for that turn.
Next up we have Frau in her Yukata. Firstly she has Encore, making it much easier to keep her on the Stage. However she only has 6000 power, which is 500 lower than other 1/1 Encore cards, making her a little easier to beat in battle. This is a trade-off because of her powerful second effect though.
By resting a Character she can gain 1000, making it so she can easily hit 8000 power, overpowering most other 1/1s, on your turn before considering the boost from supporters. Unless desperate you’ll rarely need to Rest Front Stage characters and push her higher.
You’ll usually be able to defeat whatever Level 1 your opponent puts before you, unless they counter of course, however it’s also fairly likely that she’ll get defeated during your opponent’s turn, unless you similarly have a counter. What this hopefully means is that you’ll be trading off a weaker less useful card from your Hand for one of your opponent’s stronger cards each turn.
Green / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 5000 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«科学 Science» / «オタク Otaku»
[CONT] ASSIST All of your characters in front of this card gain Power +X. X is equal to that character’s Level x 500.
[AUTO] [Put this card to Rest] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose 1 of your «科学 Science» characters, and it gains the following ability for that turn. [[AUTO] When this card’s battle opponent is put to Reverse, you may put the top 1 card of your Deck to Stock.]
Finally we have Frau in her swimsuit. Firstly she’s the usual Level support style of card, but as is usual she comes with an extra effect to differentiate her from generic cards. Level support is of course useful, and is usually the go to support card later in the game. However depending on how you want to build the deck, the Junna card from the other day might be more useful.
Frau’s second effect can help you replenish the Stock required to play her, since if you win the right battle this turn you’ll gain that Stock right back. However you don’t get to see what this new card is, so you can’t be sure if there’ll be a Climax in there or not. Frau can allow you to still player more powerful cards later, whilst keeping the general power level of your Stage up. The fact she Rests could also help you keep the earlier Geji’s power up when defending.
