Weiβ Schwarz Card of the Day Catch Up: 8th-10th of August

19 Sep

Having been away in Japan for about 2 and a half weeks, then getting settled back into work, and moving flat, it means I’ve fallen massively behind on the Weiβ Schwarz cards that have been released during this period. I’ve decided that I’m going to do several catch up articles until I’m back up to date on the cards, and then try to return to the daily articles. Up first we’ve got the the remaining cards from the first week I went away. This week saw lots of cards from the Shana and Angel Beats Extra packs, as well as previews for the newer Trial Decks. All of these have since been released.

Advisor, Bel Peol

Blue / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 3000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«炎 Flame»

[CONT] ASSIST All of your characters in front of this card gain [[AUTO] ENCORE [Put 1 character card from Hand to the Waiting Room]].
[ACT] [(1)] Draw 1 card, then choose 1 card from your Hand and put it to the Waiting Room.

I’d previously used ‘Strategist’ for the translation, but it looks like Advisor is being used by Bushiroad.

Bel Peol is one of the cards required to play the God of Creation and she comes with some quite handy abilities. Her first effect grants all characters in front of her Encore, making it much easier to keep cards around for combo plays, and generally much easier to protect yourself. It’s much easier to keep all 3 pieces required to play the God of Creation on the Stage if one can hide back stage and the other two can be protected with Encore.

Her 2nd effect allows you to speed through your deck, fishing for the other pieces required to complete the God of Creation combo. It can also help you set the waiting room up by dumping useless cards, change targets, or Climax cards if you’re getting close to a Refresh. Just be careful not use up too much stock with her.

Yuri in a winter day

Red / Level 0  / Cost 0 / 500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«死 Death» / «武器 Weapon»

[AUTO] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, look at the top 1 card of your Deck, and put it to the top of the Deck or to the Waiting Room.
[AUTO] BOND/[Pink Cape, Kanade] [(1)]

This Yuri bonds to the Kanade character counter further down the article, making her quite useful. Bonding to a counter card means you’ll have an easier time defending yourself during your opponent’s turn, but it also gets rid of the surprise factor of the card. Since the opponent knows it’s now in your hand they can either play around it, or try to force it out at an inopportune time. Yuri’s other ability allows you to check the top of your deck, which is mostly used to avoid getting Climaxes stuck in the Stock, but could also be used to keep the 1/1 7500 Kanade from hitting sending itself to the Waiting Room.

Anticipated start-up test, Akiho

Yellow / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 8000 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«科学 Science» / «メカ Mecha»

[AUTO] When your other «科学 Science» character Attacks, this card gains Power +1000 for that turn.

This was the first Robotics;Notes card revealed, and it made it clear that «科学 Science» would be a central attribute to the deck. Akiho is a fairly straightforward card. In exchange for a loss of 500 power compared to a vanilla on the defense, she can hit up to 10000 on the offense. This means she can trade off with Level 3s sometimes, which is always useful since she’ll save you one Stock.

General, Sydonay

Blue / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 8000 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«炎 Flame» / «武器 Weapon»

[AUTO] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, this card gains Power +X for that turn. X is equal to the number of your «炎 Flame» characters x 500.

Sydonay is a one turn power house that is also involved in the God of Creation combo. Much like other cards which gain massive boosts from single attributes (Usual Nagato for example), he sacrifices 500 power under normal circumstances for the chance to gain up to 2500. With a full Stage Sydonay will be hitting 10500, which should be more than enough to handle other Level 2s and can challenge some Level 3s. Even if he goes down next turn once his full power is spent, he should have taken one card down with him anyway.

Pink cape, Kanade

Yellow / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 2500 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«死 Death» / «生徒会 Student Council»

[ACT][Counter] BACKUP 3000 Level 2 [(1) Put this card from Hand to the Waiting Room]

This Kanade card is your standard 2/1 character counter, but there are a few important things to note that make it of special importance in Angel Beats! decks. Firstly of course there’s the Bond with the Yuri card from earlier to consider. Secondly is the fact it’s a Character card, which is important for cards like Operation Tornado, which require «死 Death» attribute cards to work at full strength. Finally being «生徒会 Student Council» also means it’s searchable from the deck.

In Angel Beats there is already the more powerful [The Song that was to be Sung], a 1/1 event Counter than boosts by 3500. This means you’ll need to weigh up which option is best for you, whether you want the power and versatility of the Event card, or whether you want this new Kanade card which has more synergy with the deck as a whole.

Restarting the investigation! Nero

Red / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 3500 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«探偵 Detective» / «お菓子 Sweets»

[CONT] ASSIST All of your characters in front of this card gain Power +1000.
[AUTO] At the beginning of your Climax Phase, choose 1 of your characters, and it gains Power +500 for that turn.

This Nero card is a slight variation of the +1000 in front supports you tend to see at Level 2. This comes with the slight bonus that one of your characters can also get an additional 500 power. This means you’ll either give two boosts of 1000 and one of 500, or one of 1000 and one of 1500. This means that under some circumstances it can perform better than Level support cards, since your lower level characters can get the +1500 they’d normally be denied.

Divine Summoning, Hecate

Blue / Level 3 / Cost 2 / 10000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«炎 Flame» / «巫女 Shrine Maiden»

[AUTO] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage or put by CHANGE to the Stage, you may put the top 1 card of your Clock to the Waiting Room.
[AUTO] [(1)] If [Until The Realization Of The Next Wish] is put in the Climax Border, you may pay the cost. If you do so, draw 1 card, and put the top 1 card of your Clock to the Waiting Room, and at the beginning of the Encore Step, put this card to Stock.

I’d previously called this Priestess, but Bushiroad are using Divine Summoning on their English blog.

Hecate is the final piece of the God of Creation combo, but also works as a way to replenish your resources and heal. As you might expect she Heals when she comes into play, but since she’s also a Change target it means you could play her at Level 2, and then follow up with the God of Creation. As opposed to waiting until Level 3, by which point I think he’d make less of an impact.

Hecate’s Climax combo heals you again, and lets you draw a card, but costs you a Hecate later in the turn, by making her into Stock. Drawing a card goes partway to making up for losing Hecate, and the Stock boost cancels out the fact you had to pay a Stock for the ability in the first place. Any extra heal is also useful during the late game.

Independant actions, Yuri

Red / Level 3 / Cost 2 / 10000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«死 Death» / «武器 Weapon»

[AUTO] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage or put by CHANGE to the Stage, you may put the top 1 card of your Clock to the Waiting Room.
[AUTO] [(1)] When this card attacks, if [After The Conflict] is in the Climax Border, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose 1 character card from your Waiting Room, return it to Hand, choose 1 of your «死 Death» characters, and it gains Power +3000 until the end of your opponent’s next turn.

This new Level 3 Yuri card finally gives the Angel Beats deck some healing ability, and doesn’t sacrifice all her allies like the old Level 3. Instead she has a Climax combo which not only retrieves a character, but also gives one of your characters a +3000 boost until the end of the opponent’s next turn. This means that not only are you likely to be able to bust through your opponent’s defenses on this turn with one of your characters, your opponent probably won’t be able to strike back on their turn. With multiple copies on the Stage at once, not only will you replenish your Hand, but you’ll also likely put up a near unbreakable wall for the turn.

Nosy childhood friend, Chiyuri

Green / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 2500 / 1 Soul / No trigger

«スポーツ Sports» / «ネット Net»

[ACT] [Put 2 of your «ネット Net» or «アバター Avatar» characters to Rest] Choose 1 of your characters, and it gains Power +1500 for that turn.

Finally we get a support card for Accel World, that can act as an attacker too. Usually you’ll try to Rest your two Back Stage characters, such that the cost of this ability is negligible, essentially making it a +1500 for free. Since Chiyuri has 2500 power she can also be used to take out weaker Level 0s during the start of the game, and if you need to she can even give the boost to herself in order to defeat more powerful Level 0 cards. Once you pass Level 0 she can still be used Back Stage to give a single character a strong boost, but you’ll probably find that as the game wears on more wide ranging boosts will serve you better.
