Weiβ Schwarz Card of the Day: 4th of July

In a rather unsurprising move we’re continuing the iM@S Trial Deck cards today with two new Makoto cards, both of which have Encore, which is an especially fitting ability for a series about music idols.

Mako Mako-lin! Makoto

Blue / Level 2 / Cost 2 / 8500 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger

«音楽 Music» / «スポーツ Sports»

[C] If you have 3 or more other «音楽 Music» characters on your Stage, this card gains [[A] ENCORE [Put 1 character card from Hand to the Waiting Room]].

This Makoto card comes in at 500 below the vanilla standard for a 2/2, but in exchange has the chance for an Encore ability. As I’ve said many times before I don’t think it’s all that hard to get 3 other characters on Stage at the same time during the later stages of the game, so you’ll rarely have to worry about her effect not working. Encore can always be useful for maintaining field presence whilst saving on Stock, but I’m not sure if she has enough power for the late game at the moment. There are lots of decks which play Level 3s early and will simply run her over, and she’ll then have problems counter attacking.

Action star! Makoto

Blue / Level 1 / Cost  0 / 4500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger

«音楽 Music» / «スポーツ Sports»

[C] If your Hand has 5 or more cards, this card gains Power +1000.
[A] ENCORE [Put 1 character card from Hand to the Waiting Room]

This Makoto card on the other hand I’m a bit more impressed with. If you conserve your cards and play sensibly she should be sitting at 5500 most of the time, making her the same as a 1/0 vanilla, but with the added bonus of Encore. This means she’ll be excellent during Level 1 for clearing out lower powered cards or even 1/0 vanillas. With a boost you might even be able to challenge 1/1s and potentially give the opponent a tough choice about how to use your resources.

I like this Makoto more, because early game you want to conserve stock, and this card allows you to do that, whilst also outperforming vanilla cards for the equivalent cost. The first Makoto on the other hand has quite a hefty 2 stock cost, and for that I want something a bit more impressive than a relatively weak card (for that level) that’s hard to kill.

I’ll have a little break in Card of the Days for now, whilst I’m off in Milan for YGO, but hopefully I’ll be able to get caught up on things again next week.
