This week has been full of Symphogear cards showing off several of the girls from the series. Wednesday brought us a Kanade Climax combo, Thursday gave us Tsubasa and Chris, whilst Friday gave us a Miku double bill.
Zwei Wing, Kanade
Red / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 6500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«音楽 Music» / «武器 Weapon»
[A] [(1)] When this card attacks, if [Flugel against the light] is in the Climax Zone, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose 1 Character card from your Waiting Room and return it to Hand.
Flugel against the light
Red / Door Trigger
[C] All of your characters gain Power +1000, Soul +1.
This is a very simple Climax combo that means even when you draw this Climax card you can still retrieve a character card from your Waiting Room. Kanade comes with a slight power penalty to make up for this ability though, which means you’ll have to be a bit careful around 1/1 7000s if you want to be able to use the combo on following turns.
Grief of loss, Tsubasa
Blue / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 1000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«音楽 Music» / «武器 Weapon»
[C] During your opponent’s turn, all of your other «音楽 Music» characters gain Power +500.
[S] CONCENTRATION [(1)] Turn over the top 4 cards of your Deck and put them to the Waiting Room. For every 1 Climax card amongst those cards, search for up to 1 «武器 Weapon» Character card from your Deck, show it to your opponent and add it to Hand, then choose 1 card from your Hand and put it to the Waiting Room. Shuffle that Deck.
This Tsubasa card can be quite a powerful supporting card, since not only does she provide a power boost, she also potentially fetches you more cards from your deck. Her first effect is of course useful in a Symphogear deck, but could also I suppose be mixed in Standard with something like Macross or Idolm@ster. As often happens with a universal +500 it comes with the downside that it only works during the opponent’s turn, making it a defensive rather than offensive boost. The CONCENTRATION ability will help you search for most of the cards in a Symphogear deck, however be careful with the fact that some of them only have «音楽 Music» and not «武器 Weapon». Also it doesn’t result in any kind of net gain, only an exchange of cards. This could still be useful for things like Change or Bond though.
Relaxing place, Chris
Green / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 1000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«音楽 Music» / «武器 Weapon»
[C] Your other character in the Front Stage middle Border gains Power +500.
[S] [(1) Put this card to Rest] Choose 1 card from your Clock and return it to Hand, then choose 1 card from your Hand and put it to Clock.
Chris is another support card, but with a completely different role. In terms of power boosting she’s rather weak, only giving a +500 to one specific space on the Stage. This means if she’s Back Stage (where she’ll be most of the time) she’ll be completely outmatched by other support cards. It does mean that if she’s on the Front Stage though she can still provide that one character a boost. It’s her 2nd effect that’s the far more useful one though, since it allows you to switch a card from your Clock with one in your Hand. This will be useful throughout the whole game, and means you don’t have to worry about cards getting stuck in the Clock. You could also for example Clock a card to draw 2, then if you don’t get anything better you can switch that card back out.
Red / Level 3 / Cost 2 / 10000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
[A] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, you may put the top 1 card of your Clock to the Waiting Room.
[A]This ability can only activate up to 1 time in 1 turn. When you play an Event, if your have 2 or more other «音楽 Music» characters in your Stage, this card gains Power +1000 and the following ability for that turn. [[A] When this card’s battle opponent is put to Reverse, you may put that character to the top of the Deck.]
This Miku card comes with the standard heal effect and 10000 attack you expect from a Level 3, but also comes with quite a powerful Event based effect. Along with the card from earlier in the week it looks like Symphogear is going to be trying to push Event cards. Usually you’ll have 2 other «音楽 Music» characters as your Back Stage so you don’t need to worry about that requirement. After playing an Event she’ll reach at least an 11000 base and can send a defeated character to the top of the deck, guaranteeing you at least 1 damage from the following attack. Once you get to the end of the game guaranteeing 1 damage can be the difference between winning and losing.
Stand-in guardian, Miku
Red / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 2000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
[S] CONCENTRATION [(1) Put this card to Rest] Turn over the top 4 cards of your Deck to the Waiting Room. For every 1 Climax card amongst those cards, choose up to 1 character card from your Waiting Room and return it to Hand.
Miku has a powerful Concentration effect which isn’t restricted to Character attributes, meaning she can fit into any deck. For every Climax you hit you’ll get a free card of your choice from the Waiting Room, this gives you advantage and allows you to fish out powerful cards you’ve already lost. Since she Rests you’ll only be able to use her effect once per turn, since otherwise you could gain too much advantage from repeated uses of her.
