I missed out Friday’s cards for various reasons, such as illness and writing about Yu-Gi-Oh! cards instead, so I’m having to do a bit of a catch up today. Fortunately though Friday’s cards were a Climax combo from Guilty Crown, and today’s cards are also a Climax combo, but from Symphogear.
Looking up at the sky, Shu
Green / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 9000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«葬儀社 Funeral Parlour» / «武器 Weapon»
[A] When this card attacks, put 1 card from the top of your Stock to the Waiting Room.
[A] When this card attacks if [Quality of a King] is in the Climax Zone, you put 1 card from the top of your Stock to your Hand, and this card gains Power +2000.
Quality of a King
Green / Gold Bar Trigger
[C] All your characters gain Power +1000 and Soul +1.
Shu is a very strong 2/1, coming it at the power level you’d expect for a 2/2. However to counteract this power he continually eats away at your Stock. This means that every time you attack you’ll end up with the same amount of stock as when you started (lose 1 for him to attack, gain 1 by him attacking). There are some uses to this ability, but knocking out 1 stock every turn is just too high a cost for me. If you have no stock left when you attack with him you’d not have to worry about the loss, but I’m not so sure you want to deliberately leave yourself on zero stock before attacking with him. Another use is clearing out Climax cards you’ve hit during your Attack Phase, which can otherwise be very annoying to do, especially if it’s on your first attack.
His Climax ability also eats up Stock, but this time adds the card into your hand rather than just ending up in the Waiting Room. This ability can be useful, but it can also be worthless, since there’s very little you can do to control the top card of your Stock. Sometimes you’d be able to add a good card, but many times it won’t actually be of much use to you. The further +2000 is nice though.
I think this Shu card just eats up too much Stock to be useful in the long run.
Way of the Sentinel, Tsubasa
Blue / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 6000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«音楽 Music» / «武器 Weapon»
[A] When this card attacks, if [The Blue Flash] is in the Climax Zone, this card gains Power +1500 until the end of your opponent’s next turn.
[A] ENCORE [Put 1 character card from your Hand to the Waiting Room]
The Blue Flash
Blue / 2 Soul Trigger
[A] When this card is put from your Hand to the Climax Zone, draw 1 card, and choose 1 of your characters, it gains Power +2000, Soul +1 for that turn.
This is a better combo which won’t be eating all your Stock up. Normally Tsubasa will be a 6000 with Encore, which won’t be enough to take down 1/1 vanillas but should deal with nearly all cost 0 cards out there. She’s also hard to shift, making it much easier to set her combo up. When combined with the Climax she’ll be at least 7500, which outmatches 1/1 vanillas, and can even trade-off with cards like [Servant of God, Tenshi]. What’s more she stays like that for a turn, making her a tough wall to crack. If you used the Climax on her she reaches 9500 before considering support, meaning she can even take on most Level 2 cards.
