I’ve fallen a bit behind this week, which means for my 50th Weiβ Schwarz Card of the Day I’m going to be covering 6 cards, 4 from Persona 4: The Animation, 1 from Zero no Tsukaima F and 1 from Guilty Crown.
Beauty pagent is out of the question!? Naoto
Blue / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 1000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«探偵 Detective »
[A][Clock] ALARM If this card is the top 1 card of the Clock, at the beginning of your Climax Phase, you may draw 1 card. If you do so, choose 1 card from your Hand and put it to the Waiting Room.
This is the first Alarm card we’ve seen in a while, and possibly the first since the new Clock symbol was introduced. Like the Shift ability this only works whilst the card is in the Clock. The most common way that you’ll use Alarm effects is to Clock the card during your Clock Phase, but sometimes you will end up with them on top of your Clock from taking damage during the opponents turn.
This Naoto card allows you to draw a card from your deck in exchange for a card from your hand, meaning you can try to dig for better cards, whilst getting worthless cards into the Waiting Room. Chances are you will only be able to use this effect once, since you’ll probably take at least 1 damage on the following turn. If you have empty space in a Persona 4 deck this would be an easy way to fill it, since you don’t need to worry about actually playing it normally.
Red / Level 2 / Cost 1 / No Trigger
[Counter] CONCENTRATION Choose 1 of your «魔法 Magic» or «使い魔 Familiar» characters. It gains Power +3500 for that turn. Put the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Waiting Room. If there is a Climax card amongst those cards, put this card to Stock.
Here we have a new event counter card for Zero no Tsukaima F, which combines a power boost with a Concentration ability, which I think is fairly unusual. When you play this card you’ll always get a +3500 boost, which I imagine can be used on nearly every card from the series. This is I think about in line for the 1 cost of the card.
As a bonus it can thin your deck and potentially gain you an extra Stock. If you use it as an Event card and it’s successful it’ll stop you getting a Climax stuck in your Stock. If you use it as a Counter card and are successful you’ll be a bit annoyed you’ve just prevented yourself stopping damage. On the other hand if the effect fails to hit a Climax you’ll now be more likely to cancel. As such this can be a double-edged sword.
Shaken emotions, Rise
Green / Level 3 / Cost 2 / 9500 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«音楽 Music» / «魔法 Magic»
[C] When this card in your Hand is being Played, you may choose 1 of your [New Comrade, Rise] and put it to the Waiting Room. If you do so, you can Play this card with Cost 0.
[C] If your Stock has 5 or more cards, this card gains Power +1000.
[A] When this card is put from your Hand to the Stage, you may put the top 1 card of your Clock to the Waiting Room.
Like Kanji from the other day Rise can substitute her 2 stock cost for a character card instead. In this case it’s a 0/0 so it will save you the full 2 stock and be easy to play. Since you can save stock in this way it should be much easier than normal to keep at the 5 stock or above that you need for her 2nd effect. Hopefully this will mean that most of the time Rise is a 10500, which should be enough to push her over all the 10000 attack cards out there. As expected from most Level 3 cards she also heals when playing her from your hand, which is always useful.
This is a low cost straightforward card that can help you overcome all the standard 10000s out there. There’s nothing fancy about it, but sometimes you’d like that bit of extra power over something fancy.
Alluring beach, Hare
Green / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
[C] All of your other characters gain Power +500.
[A] At the beginning of your Main Phase, look at the top 1 card of your Deck, and put it to the top or bottom of the Deck.
Based on Hare and Tsugumi it looks like Guilty Crown could be heavily based around effects which allow you to check the top of your deck. As explained before this is very useful to prevent you from getting a Climax stuck in the Stock. As a bonus Hare gives all your other characters +500 regardless of position or attribute. This means it would be useful in Standard decks as well as for Guilty Crown. There are cards out there with more impressive attack boosts, but you won’t get that coupled with something as useful as the deck checking ability.
Self-proclaimed special investigative team, Chie
Green / Level 2 / Cost 2 / 8000 / 2 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«スポーツ Sports» / «魔法 Magic»
[C] If you have 5 or more stock, this card gains Power +1000.
[A] [(1)] When “千枝の覚醒 Chie’s Awakening” is placed in your Climax Zone, if this card is on the Front Stage, you may pay the cost. By doing so, search your deck for up to 1 [Self-proclaimed special investigative team, Chie] and place it onto any Border on your Stage. Shuffle your Deck.
Chie’s first ability will bring her up to 9000, which is I think vanilla equivalent for a 2/2. If you’ve been saving up stock for Level 2 this should be possible fairly easily, but you’ll have to be careful to not play too many high cost cards at once.
Since she can fetch another copy of herself when her Climax card is in play, you’ll probably be using her to aid in swarming the field. You’ll want to either hope you’ve still got copies left in the deck, or that you’ve just had a deck refresh. Usually when you get to level 2 you’ll be on the border of refreshing, so you’ll have to be careful that you can use this effect. The ability saves you 1 stock, however this will be in exchange for a Climax card, so you lose the bonus of getting a free card.
Overall I think this is quite a costly way to play what amounts to a bunch of vanilla cards.
Self-proclaimed special investigative team, Yukiko
Red / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 4500 / 1 Soul / No Soul Trigger
«扇子 Folding Fan» / «魔法 Magic»
[C] If your stock is 5 or more, this car gains Power +1000.
[A] When [コノハナサクヤ発動 Konohana Sakuya activate] is placed on your Climax Zone, if this card is in the Front Row, you may choose up to one [Self-proclaimed special investigative team, Yukiko] from the Waiting Room and place it onto any Border on your Stage.
Yukiko is basically the same as Chie, but is cheaper and arguably more useful. There are no stock costs associated with her, so you can save the stock for important end game cards. In the early game you should be building up stock, so you should have an easy time hitting 5 stock, unless you get forced into Level 1 very quickly. This will mean she’s the same as a 1/0 vanilla, which is still a useful card.
Her recruitment effect is free and comes from the Waiting Room, which means you can afford to throw away extra copies of the card for better cards if you also draw the Climax. However it does mean that you won’t always have any cards to get in the early game.
Even if you never use her recruitment effect she’ll still function as a 1/0 vanilla most of the time. Given that some decks use these anyway the added effect will be a nice bonus for when you do manage to get it to work.
