This week it looks like we’re getting a Persona 4: The Animation week, which means some people I know should be quite happy. Today we get a Chie and a Yukiko card, both based around retrieval.
Yukiko’s Supporter, Chie
Green / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«スポーツ Sports» / «肉 Meat»
[A] [Put this card to the Waiting Room] When your other «扇子 Folding Fan» character is Front Attacked, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose 1 of your characters in battle. It gains Power +1000 for that turn.
[A] BOND/[Case Closed, Yukiko] [Put the top 1 card of your Deck to Clock]
First up we have Chie, who as the name suggests is designed for supporting Yukiko, assuming all her cards are «扇子 Folding Fan» attribute. She has a Bond to the 2nd card from this preview, which rather than being in exchange for Stock is in exchange for damage. This means you can save the Stock for Yukiko and her effect or for your other cards. It also means you will be able to use this effect when you have no Stock, should you really need to. Taking damage voluntarily can be a risk, because it brings you closer to death, but sometimes you could use it to force a level up, and allow you to play stronger cards ahead of your opponent.
Her other ability exchanges herself for a +1000 attack boost to what are likely your Yukiko characters. Normally I don’t think +1000 in exchange for a card is worth it, since you can get equal or greater boosts than this, whilst at least keeping that character to attack. However in this case it means Chie is useful even after Bonding, or if you fail to Bond. In addition since it is used in the opponent’s turn it basically means she turns into a Counter Card, albeit one that the opponent knows is there. If she’s back stage she’s a constant threat, but takes away from support cards, meaning that later in the game she’ll be outclassed by regular support cards. If she’s played to the Front Stage she can attack for stock, and then on the following turn she can help a «扇子 Folding Fan» card. Since she will be able to use her effect even whilst reversed, it means it’ll be very hard for the opponent to dodge that +1000 on their turn.
Case Closed, Yukiko
Red / Level 2 / Cost 1 / 8000 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«扇子 Folding Fan» / «メガネ Glasses»
[A] [(1)] When this card is put from Hand to the Stage, you may pay the cost. If you do so, choose 1 Level 0 or below character from your Waiting Room and put it in a Back Stage Border without a character.
Yukiko is much more straightforward. For 1 stock she gets you back one Level 1 or 0 card. This I imagine will be mainly used either to get back a support card, or get back a combo piece. If neither of these can be done it will still get you an extra card on the stage, with no effect on your deck compression.
Since she only has 8000 attack it’s probably not going to stick around too long against the stronger Level 2 cards out there, but you can’t expect both power and a retrieval ability.
