As expected we’re seeing more Madoka cards today. First up we have a new Homura card and our first example of Shift in the set. Second we have another cheap and powerful Sayaka card.
Lonely battle, Homura
Green / Level 0 / Cost 0 / 2000 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«魔法 Magic» / « 時間 Time»
[C] If you have no other Characters, this card gains +1 Level and +1500 Power.
[A] Shift Level 0 (At the beginning of your Main Phase, you may choose 1 Green card from your Hand and this card in your Clock and exchange them.)
Shift is a relatively new type of ability which was only introduced in Rewrite, so some people may not be aware of how it works yet. Basically as long as your level is equal to or higher than the Shift level you may use the effect, which means for this card there is never a time it won’t be able to use Shift. This means you can easily Clock her away at the start of your turn, and then you can switch one of your other cards back for her if you don’t get anything better. It basically means it’s very easy to have this card ready for the early game.
Her main ability will make her a 3500 attack card that’s mainly used to dodge around all those level 0 reversing cards that most decks run. Her attack power can be overcome fairly easily by supported cards though , since she’s forced to stay on Stage on her own. In most cases she’ll just be picking off the reversing cards, saving your more powerful other characters for dealing with the opponent’s powerhouses. At worst she’ll go down next turn, but if that happens you’ll have saved 1 damage compared to just losing a character to a reversing ability.
Healing prayers, Sayaka
Blue / Level 1 / Cost 0 / 6500 / 1 Soul / No Trigger
«魔法 Magic» / «愛 Love»
[A] When this card is put to Reverse in battle, put the top 1 card of your Deck to Clock, and put this card to Rest.
Once again this Sayaka has a low cost but high attack power, since she is 1000 attack higher than the standard 1/0 vanillas. Her ability is a great help to her, but is also very risky and costly for you. It basically means that under normal circumstances the card is invincible, however every time she loses a battle you’ll take 1 damage. Cards with bonus effects like the level 3 Kanade which sends reversed cards to Memory can move her out of the way, but these aren’t the most common abilities to come by. You also need to watch out for cards which can attack twice, because you’ll end up taking 2 damage at least.
The incredible endurance of this card works very well with the other Sayaka cards who get powered up by having other «魔法 Magic» characters on Stage, since this card will make it even easier to keep a large number of them around.
Unfortunately in order to prevent this card killing you off too quickly you will need to send it to the Waiting Room in order to replace her with another card, which loses you a card in the process. You will probably need to do this once you get over level 1, when she could become a liability if the opponent has enough strong characters. However since under normal circumstances you would have lost a card in battle anyway this isn’t too bad.
We’ll need to wait and see if Madoka gets any powerful Counter cards at level 1, since if you can protect her easily during the opponent’s turn you’ll rarely have to worry about taking damage off her at level 1, and can place down a high attack power card for 0 cost.
