Once again I’m a bit late on this, and once again we have another Dog Days card, this time though it’s a counter card. I wonder if we can go the whole week with nothing but Dog Days.
Free Knight d’Arquien
Red / Level 1 / Cost 1 / 1500 / 1 Soul / 1 Soul Trigger
«動物 Animal» / «武器 Weapon»
[A] When you use this card’s ASSISTANCE, if you have 3 or more «動物 Animal» or «勇者 Hero» characters, choose 1 of your characters in battle. It gains Power +X for that turn. X is your Level x 500.
[S][Counter] ASSISTANCE 1500 Level 1 [(1) Put this card from your Hand to the Waiting Room]
d’Arquien here is a counter card that gradually gets more powerful as the game wears on, assuming you can keep 3 «動物 Animal» or «勇者 Hero» characters on the stage, which honestly shouldn’t be that hard. This means it will be a +2000 card at level 1, a +2500 at level 2 and a +3000 at level 3. If I knew more about the counter cards available in the game as a whole I could give a better assessment of this ability, but all I can do right now is compare it to some other cards I know. [Monopoly?! Asuka] comes in at the same strength for a 1/1 counter, but has the added bonus of her retrieval ability, which I feel plays more of a role in her cost than the counter boost. [Witch Nagato & Shamisen] can achieve the same power boost, but for free, although arguably this counter is above the normal power curve. At level 2 [Clubroom Itsuki & Nagato] gives an equivalent boost, but has the bonus effect of shuffling opponent’s cards back to their deck if you wish.
I don’t know enough counters without added bonuses off the top of my head, but I doubt this performs better than them. For example [The Song that was to be Sung] is a 1/1 +3500, but is restrictive in its targets, or [Funny Lion] which is a 2/2 +5000, or[Vocalist Haruhi] which is a 1/1 +2000. In the context of other cards out there this seems like it isn’t a particularly powerful counter card, since it doesn’t have any added bonuses. Maybe it might become relatively useful once you hit level 3 though. Within Dog Days I’m not sure what other Counter Cards they have access to, so I can’t say how this compares. It may well be that within Dog Days this is the best choice the deck has n terms of Counter cards.
